♫On the streets of Chicago born and raised, on the football yard she spent most of her days♫
Nah really a suburb of Chicago, Elgin aka E-town aka my HomeHOMEtown! Born May 27th, 1983, the first girl to play on a football team in 5th grade, I grew up in a family that was always a part of music, through playing instrument, or singing in choir. My earliest memories of being in choir where in the 3rd grade but I’m sure I dabbled before then. Knowing I love to sing I didn’t really think to write lyrics until after I was inspired to do so by the band Hanson. I think in part they inspired to me to actually take what I had written and put it to music. Starting with my parents graciously getting me a drumset, through my Dianes, my friends, my compadres, helping me discover means to make the music I so much desired to through many different programs, such as Noteworthy, Acid, and eventually Logic. Bringing me to as of 2018 21 years of writing lyrics, 16 years of making music, 14 albums released, 18 music videos produced, and 1 live performance of a song.
As an artist that’s how I grew, but as the band, bahabala, that started from many factors. First and foremost “bahabala” came from my 1st and prob only prank phone call. I had at the time been wanted to get a group together so gathering friends started my/our first group. Though nothing ever came of the collaboration it really fueled my engines to start a band of some sort…… Enter bahabala…………
With myself on drums, my brother Justin on drums, oboe and “trumpet”, my friend Ryan on lead vocal, guest guitarists Tony on electric, and Anna on bass we created the foundation of bahabala. We recorded a handfull of songs via my karaoke machine even handing out mixtapes we had made of our “album”, but that’s as far as it went. We would all venture from there to make music in our own ways.
With the approval of co-founding members I continue on making music under the name bahabala, and have deeply appreciated it since. This word of nonsense uttered has become more than just that, nor an artist name, but a representation of myself, to reflect onto the world. And for that I am eternally grateful. <3
